A little exercise means a lot less stress!

12/3/2013

Yes, we are all busy this time of year and perhaps even stressed.  Grab a friend or personal trainer and start exercising daily and your stress will melt away.  When the body is under stress it produces a hormone called cortisol.  When you work out the body not only burns that cortisol but it also releases endorphins, which naturally make us happy. So here are 5 basic steps to turn your stress into bliss.
1.    Identify what you enjoy doing. For example, you may choose to work in the yard or wash the car rather than run. You can choose to hike in the woods or walk on a treadmill, join classes, play a sport, weight lift, run, ski, swim….the possibilities are endless.

2.    Set reasonable goals. Mark your calendar and stay committed!

3.    Exercise with a friend or personal trainer who can hold you accountable, make exercise fun and calm you.  The presence of someone along side you has been known to decrease your stress and add motivation.

4.    Try to get outdoors. The fresh air and sounds of water have been known to have calming affects on our bodies.

5.    The body adapts so continue to challenge yourself.  Your trainer will vary your intensity, suggest new activities, and keep it fresh!
